Make-it-Fly®
Alumni Advisory Board
Frequently Asked Questions
How do these boards differ from
the Make-it-Fly® Advisory
Board 101?
Alumni Advisory Boards are made up of Advisory Board
101 graduates who are committed to growing their companies,
and who want to maintain a lifestyle of strategic goal
setting and accountability. These boards have 12 to
14 members in non-competing fields and meet once a month.
The format is less structured, and time is devoted
to discussion of members’ real-time issues.
What sort of commitment is involved?
Members commit to the following:
- A minimum membership of six months (some members
continue for years)
- Weekly accountability with a buddy
- Regularly setting 30-day goals
What is the biggest value for Alumni
Advisory Board members?
- Candid feedback and fresh perspectives from fellow
board members—sometimes, we are too close to
our own situations to see with objectivity
- A caring and encouraging support system
- An affordable way to maintain your own business
advisory board
- Continual exposure to a variety of resources and
networks through other members
- Access to quarterly Alumni Board members-only workshops
on pertinent topics requested by members
When and where do these boards meet?
Alumni Boards meet once a month, from 9 a.m. to noon,
3 to 6 p.m. or 4 to 7 p.m., at our office conference
room, 355 South Teller Street, Lakewood.
What is the meeting format?
Members start by sharing their greatest business successes
and challenges since the last meeting, progress made
on their 30-day goals and describing any specific needs
they would like board members’ input on. Two board
members will then make brief presentations to the board
and receive requested feedback. After that, the board
addresses other member needs, 30-day goals are shared
and accountability buddies for the month assigned.
Do you plan to start new Alumni
Advisory Boards?
Because each board is comprised of non-competing business
owners, we currently have a wait list in some categories.
We want to provide quality facilitation and assistance
to all board members, so we have limited the numbers
of boards. We plan to start a new Alumni Advisory Board
in early summer 2007.
