Victoria is healing well and is almost ‘back to normal’
now. It’s wonderful to be pain-free for the first time in
years! Thank you all for your support
during this time—it has meant so much to
us.
Last weekend, we where overwhelmed
by a surprise living room makeover by Geri Bigum of Staging
Denver. We’ve been busy focusing on the business and
had taken little time to make our home attractive. Geri took Victoria
to her favorite sale and helped her shop for furniture. Then she
worked her magic and transformed our living room into a designer
masterpiece.

As we move to franchise Make-it-Fly®,
we’ll be facilitating fewer boards ourselves.
We trust that you’re enjoying a fun and productive summer
Our very best regards,

Breaking Glass for Ladypreneurs
Bob Adelmann has been an entrepreneur from the tender age of
six, so he’s had plenty of time to learn his way around
how to start and run a business. He realized that women business
owners needed specialized information, so he decided to start
Breaking Glass for Ladypreneurs. “I teach low-cost, highly
effective marketing strategies to ladypreneurs, often in a workshop
format,” Bob says, “thus reducing their anxiety, increasing
their self-confidence and improving their bottom line.”
He’s been doing this since March, 2006.
|
|
Q: What do you find
most fulfilling about running your business?
BA: What I love
most is the positive feedback I get from ladies who attend my
workshop – that what I teach actually works for them in
their businesses.
Q: What motivated you to start
this business? What is your background experience in this area?
BA: God has given
me many abilities, and so to put them to the most effective use
I started teaching business owners marketing strategies I had
used to build my own businesses over the years. I’ve been
an entrepreneur since I started selling Burpee seeds door to door
at age 6. Much more recently, I started, operated and then sold
a money-management business (to my son Russ). And I just sold
in March, 2008 a windshield repair service company to make room
for my speaking and training business.
Q: What book has been most helpful
to you in your business?
BA: Outside
of the Bible (especially and specifically the Book of Proverbs),
I have found The Prosperity Bible (a collection of 19
books including Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
and The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin) most helpful
along the way.
Q: Who has influenced you most
in your life?
BA: Aside
from my relationship with Jesus Christ, I would have to say that
my father had the greatest influence. He taught me one simple
rule: “Whatever you undertake to do, do it to the very best
of your ability, or don’t do it at all.”
Q: What has proved to be your most
successful marketing strategy?
BA: Proverbs
16:3: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans
will succeed.” Of course, I am not the first to discover
this strategy. For example, W. H. Murray said, “The moment
one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All
sorts of things occur to help that would never otherwise have
occurred. A stream of events issues from the decision, raising
unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which
no man could have dreamt would have come his way.”
Q: What have been the greatest
challenges you have had to overcome, or are currently facing,
in your business?
BA: The
greatest challenge for me, as a Driver personality style, is to
learn to let go. I call it learning how to use a lighter touch,
a softer approach, to be less demanding of myself and more patient
with others.
Q: How did you benefit from participating
in a Make-it-Fly® board?
BA: It
slowed me down long enough to do the main thing I needed to do
but kept putting off: defining and refining more precisely my
target market. I’ve learned that the tighter the focus,
the greater the impact, just like a magnifying glass in the sun.
Q: What would you say to other
business owners who are contemplating getting involved in a Make-it-Fly®
board?
BA:
Don’t do it (tongue in cheek)!
Don’t do it, in other words, unless you’re willing
to take the time to sharpen your axe so that you can cut down
more trees more effectively.

Dave’s
Networking Tip:
Apply
the 30/70 rule. When
meeting someone for the first time, make sure you allow
him or her to do 70% of the talking, and you only 30%.
Ask questions and listen sincerely. This enables you to
get to know the person, understand his or her needs and
find out how you might be able to help.

The
Dangers of Avoiding Change
Three Keys to Help Make Change Easy
By Victoria Munro
Many business owners today are faced with the challenge of too
much to do and seemingly insufficient time in which to do it.
It is easy to become overwhelmed—there
is always a lot to do and it all seems to need to be done
NOW!
As an entrepreneur you may need to wear the many hats of CEO,
receptionist, sales manager, marketing director and janitor all
rolled into one, so you can quickly lose focus and become snowed
under. It’s easy to get caught up with the busyness and
just do what we’ve always done. But in order to maintain
our sanity, increase our efficiency and live balanced lives while
growing our businesses we need to step back, take an objective
look at our situation, and make some needed changes.
To stay competitive and grow requires
innovation and that inevitably means change. As
Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species
that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive
to change.” Change is vital for our survival and growth,
but often presents our greatest challenge. Developing new habits
isn’t easy—old habits, however unproductive, are comfortable
and usually demand little thought or effort. Staying in the status
quo may be easy, but it probably won’t get you where you
want to go.
Easy Keys to Make Positive Changes
Below are three keys that have helped me to make needed changes.
| 1.
|
Keep
Your Eyes on the Prize
Take some time to clearly define where you ultimately want
to take your life and your business and why. Ask
yourself what you want your life and your business to look
like in the future. Conceptualize it—see it, feel it,
smell it. Think about what you want to be remembered for.
In order to achieve this, note down the changes you’ll
need to make. |
| 2. |
Consider
the Price
Weigh the costs and the rewards. Reflect on what these needed
changes will cost you personally. You may have to reach beyond
your comfort zone—perhaps learn new technology, work
in unfamiliar markets, brush up on skills you haven’t
used lately or do things you don’t especially enjoy.
Be realistic and understand the price you’ll have to
pay to change. Also consider the possible consequences of
failing to make these changes. |
| 3. |
Commit
to the Process
Write a step-by-step plan to reach your goal. It needn’t
be complicated, but it needs to be documented. Now, commit
to work your plan.
It helps to share your plan with someone else and ask him
or her to hold you accountable to make the changes and do
what you’ve committed to do. It’s also encouraging
to celebrate your successes, even the small ones, together. |
Keep your eyes on the prize. Recognizing and remembering the
potential payback to you and your business of making these changes
is key—the What’s in it for me? factor. Focusing
on these benefits often provides the motivation and self-discipline
we need to make the effort and stick with our new habits.
I encourage you to take your time, your business and your life
seriously—take responsibility for your own success by making
necessary changes.

Victoria’s
Marketing Advice
Create Your Ideal Client
Persona
When you write marketing copy, it helps
to know—really think about—the person you’re
writing for. In your mind, create a persona based on your
ideal client profile and write for him/her. Identify
his/her gender, age, and background; even the color of
her hair. Understand what she enjoys, what’s important
to her and what her challenges are. |
